Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a more common disorder among school-aged children. The origins and meanings of this disorder has interested me from about age 14 when I first met with my best friend’s brother Misha, who as I later found out, has Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. From the first day when I met Misha, a feeling of uncertainty crept into me. Misha seemed to be a little too active - running around all the time, feeling jittery, and being very impulsive and hyper. “It’s just the childhood jitters, and it’s Misha - he is a hyper boy!” he said. I went to my mom and asked for her opinion, and she told me that she thought that Misha had Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Hyper… that is a good word to describe Misha. It sure does fit Misha well! Not receiving the answer I was looking for since I was still unsure what this disorder was about, I Googled it and read the definition. At that moment, I knew that I wanted to learn more about this disorder since I had a live example right in front of me (comparing the definition Google had given me to Misha). I remember it was already late that night for me to investigate some more, so I had to go to bed. The next day, school came again and homework fell on me… But now, I have the chance to finally understand what Misha has and what Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
