Nearly 15,780 children in 2014 were diagnosed with cancer and 1,960 of these children died (“Cancer in Children”). Cancer is an exceptionally fatal disease caused by an uncontrollable division of abnormal cells in parts of the body. To support the people who have been diagnosed with this horrible disease an organization has been created to help. The name of this organization is the Child Cancer Awareness Organization. The purpose of the group is to help families pay for medical bills and to search for a cure (“Childhood Cancer”). One key time is the month September because it is gold ribbon month. Some people donate money to get involved and receive a gold ribbon as a thank you for helping others (“Childhood Cancer”). The gold ribbon is the symbol for the movement and how they get the name of the organization out to the public. Supporting Child Cancer Awareness can make this number decrease. Forty-three of those children being diagnosed with cancer, 12% of them do not survive (“Childhood Cancer”). The children that do survive cancer 60% of them will suffer late-effects, such as infertility, heart failure, and secondary cancers (“Childhood Cancer”). These children are suffering tremendously and along with them their families. The parents of these children are constantly dealing with medical bills, and the stress of worrying if their child is going to live. But supporting Child Cancer Awareness can help the parents with their children and make sure their children are getting all the help they can get.These children just sit in their hospital bed wondering if they are going to live to even see their sixteenth birthday or get a chance to drive.
