You’ve heard of Zeus? How about Poseidon? And Hades? I bet you know who these people are, or what they are; but how did they become what they’re greatly known for? What did they have to go through to get to there? To become the greatest known Greek Gods, Cronus, their father had to be defeated. Cronus was a twin, and his parents also gave birth to 11 others, the six twin Titans were named Oceanus and Thethys, Coeos and Phoebe, Hyperion and Thea, Creos and Themis, Iapetos and Clymene, and finally Cronus and Rhea.
His Parents also gave birth to three Cyclopes, and three Hecatoncheires, fifty heads and one-hundred arms. Uranus disliked his offspring, so he forced them to return to their mother’s womb. The pain of carrying the numerous children angered Gaia, and she made a plan for revenge against Uranus. Cronus, came to her aid. Cronus, with his mother’s help, created a sickle and defeated his father.

When he was born, his infant cries were drowned out by the Kouretes, attendants of his mother, who clashed their weapons together. Rhea gave birth to her sixth child, Zeus. When Cronus came to collect the baby, instead of handing Cronos the child, Rhea gave him a rock in a blanket. Cronos swallowed it believing it was the baby. Rhea smuggled Zeus to the island of Crete to be raised by nymphs.

During his search he met the Oceanid Philyra 1 and consorted with her. By him she bore the wise Centaur Chiron, but later, when Philyra 1 saw the strange species she had given birth to, she asked Zeus to change her into another form, and he turned her into the tree called
