LACROSSE
I will inform my audience about the offense, defense, and gear needed for the sport of lacrosse.
What are the different types of plays and formations when the ball is on the offensive side?
Lacrosse is a sport with a complex-looking outside, but a relatively simple inside. The offense of the sport is a great example of this. According to Lax Life, a Canadian lacrosse education website, “The ‘motion offense’ is a system that relies on getting the ball low (to the ‘crease position’) and then sending a series of cutters in a particular order (timing), with the ball carrier carrying the ball high and shooting, if no options present themselves.” Executing a “Motion offense” is a crucial part of playing lacrosse. The “Motion offense” gets

There is a 2-2-2, a 1-3-2, a 2-3-1, and any other formation of offensive players that adds up to six. According to Damon Wilson, a former lacrosse goalie, and entrepreneur, one of the easiest and most effective offensive plays in lacrosse is the 13 Cheap, in other words, the 1-3-2. “This comes with many of the previous pros as the last set (1-3-2). Namely, it’s very easy to run a great motion offense and keep very good spacing to give each offensive player room to operate. In this set, 5 players are a threat to score without a dodge or cut and that puts additional pressure on the defense.” When an offense in lacrosse runs a 1-3-2, it gets the defenders worried about the offensive player behind the goal, and not where the ball is. When the defenders have to keep track of multiple people in multiple positions, they can get overwhelmed, and lose the guy behind the goal. The man behind the goal is called X, and when X beats his defender and cuts around the goal, he will draw another defender to him, which will leave another attack open. When X sees this open attack, he will pass to him, and then the other attack will shoot, and hopefully score. …show more content…
Great defense contains multiple complex strategies, and most important of all, communication. According to Damon Wilson, a former lacrosse goalie, and entrepreneur, communication is key to team defense. “Understanding team defense is also going to help aid in goalie communication and general team defense communication as you’ll always know what each defender should be doing at every moment.” When playing defense in lacrosse, one should always be communicating and aware of where everyone is. This is because an offensive player can sneak away from you and get the ball and score. When communicating, defensive players should be speaking as loud as they can. They should be informing their fellow teammates where the ball is coming from, who is dodging, and if you are covering the man with the ball. When the goalie is communicating, they should tell the defenders what to do, where the ball is, and when they should slide. Sliding is a tactic to cover the ball if the offensive player somehow gets past their defender. When they get beat, the middle defender will always come over and guard the man that beat the other defender, this is called the One Slide. Another slide comes that is called the Two Slide, they cover the man that the One Slide had left. The Two Slide is always farthest from the ball, so the open offensive man must catch the farthest pass. Lacrosse is a physical sport, but one can get carried away. This could happen by
