Being a Expert on Softball
“The way of life, or just a sport?”

Some sounds only softball players know, for example the ball when it hits the bat or the pattern of their breathing when there rounding 2nd. Newbie players might know these sounds but lifetimes know exactly what I'm talking about. But being an expert at softball doesn't necessarily mean they're the best one on the field it means that when they are out on the field they play with there heart, and they give 110% every time there metals hit the dirt, and if they don't play with there heart and they don't give 110% they shouldn't play softball. But in order to be a catcher, one must have coordination, leadership skills, knowledge …show more content…

Softball did not become a NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) until 1910. Still un-named softball was not named ‘softball’ till 1926. George Hancock invented the game, a man invented a sport that was later played by women. Hancock watched a man throw a boxing glove at another man, and it just so happened the man hit the glove back with a pole, and the invention of softball just expanded from there.

To be a catcher, coordination and the ability to perform movements of various degree of difficulty quickly is a necessity. Coordination is not a natural talent, so to have good hand eye coordination, drills and other activities can help tremendously. Also, to improve coordination, playing multiple sports at once can help muscle memory. For example, soccer and softball soccer would help build feet eye coordination while softball would help hand eye coordination. A great leader will make a team great. While being a leader is important none of it will matter if they don't know the game.

Another thing to remember when catching is ‘the game’ the rules, the players, the batters just all around just know how to play the game. Batters have an average of 4-5 pitches a bat. The batter gets three strikes and they are out. They get four balls, and they walk. When the batter has two strikes and they bunt they are out. Also catchers have to remember that if there are two strikes and the batter swings and they drop the ball it is a drop 3rd and the catcher has to throw the ball to first or tag the batter before they get to first.

All these things are great to become a catcher but they can't get too caught up in all pressure of the game they still have to play from there heart. If they're playing solely off of talent it won't take them anywhere and they also won't have fun playing any more. Yes softball is about hitting throwing, playing their hardest and winning but it's also about having a love for the game.
Catchers sometimes think that if they are 110% focused and prepared and ready every game
