I have read many stories about athletes from different countries, to pro level, to youth, most of them recover from a concussion, but imagine if you didn’t? Can you imagine the type of life that person with a mild concussion has dealt with? For example, Kelley’s was a volleyball player, a young girl with big dreams, perhaps seeing herself playing in a professional team. Imagine being diagnosed with a concussion that will end your sport career. While, Kelley was diagnosed with her second concussion, you might think, all she need is rest and she will be back in action…but in her case everything changed. Majority of people, don’t even know the stages of a concussion. “The effects of a concussion depend on the severity of the head injury, which puts concussions into one of three grades” (the Newsome Law Firm.). Grade 1 characteristics are dizziness, confusion, headaches, and memory loss. Basically, it’s the symptoms that are developing factors headed for a concussion and most tend to last for about 15-30 minutes. It also talks about the treatment, which apparently there is no treatment in Grade 1, but it’s recommended to see a medical profession. Grade 2 have the same symptoms as Grade 1, but the difference is that in Grade 2, the symptoms can last max of 24 hours. As a concussion becomes more sever, symptoms increase. The treatment for Grade 2 is take aspirin or ibuprofen past a half hour to reduce the headache. Another important factor of grade 2 is to prevent drinking alcohol and observation should be captured within 24 hours. “Grade 3 can signal mild brain damage or even a brief coma” (the Newsome Law Firm). This grade is more dangerous because symptoms can last for weeks and months. Some symptoms for grade 3 are amnesia or even suffer from repeating themselves, and are slow responders in conversations.
