I. Artificial dyes are found in a majority of processed foods in America. Most of these synthetic dyes are made of or based off of petroleum, a crude oil. Since these dyes are mainly petroleum based they can cause serious health risks on people, especially those diagnosed with ADHD, attention deficit/hyperactive disorder. Because of these potential dangers, laws dating back to the 19th century have been passed, banning the addition of dyes and other harmful substances to foods. Through the years there have been many debates, laws and protests against food dye and their effects on humans and animals.
II. The ingredients of food dyes are unsafe, unnatural and can make people very sick if not tested of handled correctly.

There has been a huge amount of studies done on the theory that synthetic dyes increase hyper activity in children and the “Feingold Diet.”
A. The “Feingold Diet” is a diet that excludes all artificial dye from it, claiming to help calm hyperactive children.
1. Many studies have been done comparing the “Feingold Diet” against a diet that does have artificial food dyes included in it.
2. In many cases parents and guardians have claimed that this diet has cause a significant decrease in hyper activity in children.
3. Other times parents have said there was no noticeable reduction in children, so the “Feingold Diet” still remains a subject of controversy.
B. Most food dyes that people eat on a daily basis cause illness in both people and animals later on in life.
1. In 2010 there was an article released by the CSPI called, “Food Dyes: A Rainbow of Risks” that exposed many dyes and their dangerous.
2. Eight legal dyes were discussed, their causing of cancers in people later in life and kidney stones was talked about.
3. Dyes can have short and long-term effects on people, activity in people can spike during periods of a large amounts of food dyes being consumed and food dyes can cause cancer that stay dormant in the body until later in
