General purpose: This speech is to inform.
Specific purpose: To inform my audience about the role public health plays in the healthcare system

Introduction:
I. Attention-getting device: Our former U.S. surgeon general, C. Everett Koop, once said that: “Health care is vital to all of us some of the time, but public health is vital to all of us all of the time.”
II. Statement of relevance:
Public health is something that every person in every part of the world is affected by. Without public health, individuals would not be able to be prevented from certain diseases and health concerns. Those in the public health field, inform, educate, and empower people about health issues. They do it through the use of health campaigns and health advising. According to Creighton University’s website, they tend to “educate youth to make wiser choices regarding their health and to pass those lessons on to their children”.

B. Public health professions enforce laws and develop policies and plans that support individual and community health.
1. The School of Public Health states on their website Washington.edu that public policies are “designed to prioritize and solve identified local and national health problems”. Public health professionals work in partnership with government officials, community leaders, and educators to come up ways to modify and create a better public health policy that meets all the needs of those with health issues.

2. The laws that are created in the public health field allow individuals and communities to live with the assurance that the safety of their wellbeing has been accounted for. Non-profit organizations tend to work with minorities, veterans, or single mothers. While private settings are similar but more so look into working at health insurance companies or pharmaceutical brands.
