The Summary of Performance and Financial Information Fiscal Year 2013 from the Department of Health and Human Services is an important document. It helps to understand the mission and the goals of the Department and to navigate thru the major initiatives. The secretary of the Department is Kathleen Sebelius. In the 2013 report, she did her best to go over the mission and goals of the Department.
The mission of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to keep Americans safe and healthy by administering effective health and human services programs and fostering advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services. The Department is dedicated to serving Americans of all ages from the focus on quality early childhood education to continuing the implementation of the Affordable Care Act while protecting vulnerable populations and promoting science and innovation. The department is divided into our categories: health care, public health, research and development and human services. The Affordable Care Act is the law that President Obama signed on March 23, 2010 transforming and modernizing the American Health Care System. HHS regularly collects and analyzes performances data to inform decisions. According the data given in the report, of the five strategic goals: 89% spent on goal 1, 3% on goal 2, 6% on goal 3, 2% on goal 4 and less than 1% on goal 5. HHS is always continued to expand its scientific knowledge of how best advance the health care, public health, human services, biomedical research and to ensure the avaibility of safe medical and food products.
