Every year hundreds of young American women disappear. One case that left the police baffled and the family devastated was Washington intern, Chandra Levy. Levy was only twenty-three years old when her parents reported her missing. Once she was determined missing on May 1, 2001, she became a media magnet. Sadly her remains were found on May 22, 2002 by a running trail she was known to use. But theorist still have questions about her death. However, most believe Levy was murdered by illegal immigrant, Ingmar Guandique, but some say the government may have something to do with her mysterious death. Guandique was already a convicted felon for attempted rape on two women who ran the same trail in Rock Creek Park that Levy was known to run and where her remains were found. Not to mention, Guandique failed to show up to his place of work the day Levy vanished (Katz 375). Guandique was taken to court for the murder of young Chandra Levy. According to his old cellmate at a Kentucky prison, Morales, a five-time convicted felon, claims Guandique confided in him and told him “You don’t understand… Homeboy, I killed the bitch but I didn’t rape her” (Charges Dropped against Guandique). Guandique’s reasoning for confessing was because if he got sent back to prison, the inmates would view him differently as a murderer than a rapist. There is roughly around dozen witnesses in Levy’s case, two of which claim Guandique admitted to killing Levy (Katz 37). Guandique was sentenced to 60 years in prison once he was convicted for the murder of Chandra Levy. (Levy’s Remains Found).
