To Kill a Mockingbird Courage is a trait that shows bravery and self trust, integrity is being sincere, honest and having a strong moral principle. Showing courage will build integrity. The novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird” is written by Harper Lee. In this novel, an example of courage building integrity is the part where Atticus explains how courage is when you see things through, no matter what. Another example of this is how Scout defends her father from Mr. Cunningham and his mob outside the jailhouse. Lastly, Atticus defends Tom Robinson in court, even though he knows the majority of the town is against him. When an individual acts with courage, integrity is developed by showing strong moral values. No matter how low the possibilities of succeeding are, seeing the problem through is undoubtedly showing courage. Atticus talks about Mrs. Dubose’s bravery, he states that she is the bravest person he knows. Mr. Finch explains how courage is more than a man with a gun in his hand.
