Intrinsic And Extrinsic Feedback In Basketball

Throughout this unit of basketball, I have developed and refined my basketball skills and have been able to gain a clear understanding of the motor learning principles and my preference of learning when underpinning my performance of a basketball layup. This has been evaluated by the different types of feedback that I have received throughout the unit in an effort to progress my stage of learning in this motor skill. After analysing each of the three stages of learning, cognitive, associative, and autonomous, it has been made evident through my performance of a basketball layup that I am currently within the associative stage of learning.

2010). Feedback consists of two major categories, intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic feedback is the feeling of the movements that is felt by the performer as they execute a skill, however, extrinsic feedback is the source of information provided by external sources that can either be given before or after the performance and is divided into two main principles which include knowledge of results and knowledge of performance (Amezdroz et al. 2010). By evaluating the types of feedback I have received throughout this unit it has been made evident that the feedback that was most effective and highly simulated my improvements when performing a layup in basketball was visual feedback. One of the main reasons as to why I have improved in my performance of my layup is due to the visual feedback that I have received which consists of knowledge of extrinsic feedback which highly benefits my development as I am an associative learner, also according to my vark questionnaire I am predominantly a visual, kinaesthetic learner that results in me requiring both intrinsic and extrinsic feedback. This is because I still need assistance in what to do when performing a basketball layup and the …show more content…

Massed practise is a training routine in which a skill is practised continuously and cautiously (Amezdroz et al. 2010). This practise type would not be beneficial for a cognitive learner as you have to have an understanding of the elements and principles involved in completing the process of a layup. However, due to me being at an associative level of learning when performing a basketball layup massed practice would be a suitable and effective practise type as I already have an in depth understanding of the physical skills and movements that are involved within the development and process of a layup. This will result in me being able to efficiently repeat the process and motions of the motor program over and over again which will hopefully result in the increase of my improvements when performing the skill as I am able to pick up on my errors and learn from my previous attempts. I believe that this practise type will further increase my stage of learning effectively as I am a kinaesthetic leaners which requires the knowledge and understanding of the motor skill, in order to learn how to perform it. Therefore this practise type will hopefully be able to physically improve my
