The research of United Nations Environment Program in 2015 shows that the industrialized countries of the world waste almost as much as entire amounts of food produced to feed the Sub-Sahara African region. It is disappointing that people are dying of hunger in parts of the globe while other parts are wasting food unnecessarily. Furthermore, production of food waste is causing environmental hazards. Now is the time for people to understand the consequences of food waste and the techniques that can help control it.

The article “Iowa medical center devises strategy to reduce food waste” discusses the strategy that Iowa medical center developed to reduce food loss; she points out that, “The hospital switched to compostable food containers and began using a pulper to pulverize its leftover food waste, which then went to the city landfill each week for composting“(Mckinee 2). If a hospital that produces food on a large scale can do this, why cannot we? We can also use our wastes to enrich the soil in our gardens or flower beds. This can help us to protect our environment as we are improving the soil structure.
The most important aspect for the management of food waste can be donating.
