The Union wasn’t that powerful! Even though the Confederacy didn’t have a navy, they had ironclads which were stronger than regular ships. An ironclad is a warship with armor plating. Ironclads could withstand cannonballs that would hit it. The cannonballs would just bounce off the ship Regular warships are not durable like ironclads are. The South even had some good naval weapons such as floating obstructions, underwater mines, and torpedoes. The Union Army had trained professionals, but so did the Confederates! the soldiers had a strong will to fight, and they even had strong military generals that went to military school.
