A hero is one who is there for someone when they need a helping hand or just a friend. Someone who is forgiving, determined to help, and someone who puts others in front of themselves. All of these characteristics apply to Calvin Schwa, or also known as “The Schwa”. In “The Schwa was here,” Calvin Schwa’s characteristics are forgiving, determined, and he puts others in front of himself. Calvin Schwa is a hero because of his willingness to forgive others, his determination, and him putting others in front of himself. When someone is forgiving is someone that he or she can count on, when someone makes mistakes, he or she is forgiven easily. Antsy, or Anthony was putting the Schwa down and using the Schwa for his own good. He also leaves Calvin out when Lexie is put into the story because of Anthony´s feelings for her. When The Schwa sets out to find his mother, he tells Anthony that he won't forget Anthony if Anthony doesn't forget him. Antsy then forgives him and says, “I’m truly sorry”(21) He also still feels bad about what he did to Calvin, Antsy says, “Will Calvin be back tonight? The Schwa is a very determined person because of his willingness to find his mother and how much he loves and misses his mother more than anyone, as the book says, “The Schwa wanted to know the truth more than anything else in his life”(20) The book states, “Then the Schwa goes to his room, closes the door, and goes through the letters one by one”(20) Even after his dad ignores his questions about his mother, his father says,”Where's mom?” “Nevermind that, where were you?”(20), nothing puts him down as he later finds his mother. This shows the Schwa is willing to go through anything to reach his goal. The Schwa is a hero because of his
