People are overly ambitious in wanting to take power from the person who has the most of it. In the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding a group of boys, none who are older than 13, are deserted on an island after their plane crashes. The boys make a sort of government and elect a leader, they create rules and have fun. This was in the beginning though over time the boys start to become more savage and brutal they start to lose their once civilized nature and end up killing some of the other boys. In the Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, power corrupts people by limiting others without power, searching for more power, and losing yourself for power.
Author and editor of two magazines, Lauren Tarshis in the essay, Is Facebook Making You Mean?, published on September 5, 2011 in a classroom magazine addresses the topic of online bullying through the popular social networking site, Facebook, and argues that these sites should be used responsibly to ensure the safety of all users. Tarshis supports her claim first by providing incidents and facts that prove the immense effects rude comments and thoughtless jokes have on the person receiving them. Second by, making an emotional appeal to her audience which creates a unity between the reader and writer. Finally by, establishing her credibility as a writer by providing an extensive amount of educated assertions supported by scientific studies.
Social media can lead to many things such as cyberbullying, a person catfishing, or invasion of privacy. Many people tend to use social media as a way to bully people. Which isn’t a good thing bullying shouldn't exist at all. Not only that but people also tend to use social media to make a fake account to talk to someone or pretend to be someone else.
The constant connectivity to social platforms promotes an environment where individuals feel compelled to constantly seek validation, often measuring their self-worth based on likes, comments, and shares(social currency).Always trying to get people to like you on social media can make you see yourself in a bad way, feeling like you're not good enough and not worth much. Also, because you can be anonymous and get on social media easily, it's a place where bullying happens a lot. People can pick on others, make fun of them, and be mean. All this adds up and can make people feel really bad, messing with their mental health as they try to deal with all the stuff happening
In This essay, “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely” by Stephen Marche he argues that overusing Facebook can make us become lonely; however, he overlooks the advantages that social can contribute to us. Social media has become one of the easiest and fastest way to communicate with people all around the world. It helps us stay connected with family members, and friends around the world. Facebook is one of the main social media that provides all of this to us. Yet, some people can over use the advantages that Facebook gives us.
What can be seen in source 1 is a FaceBook status made by an adolescent, commenting on the actions of a 12 year old. “Saw sum litle 12year old reading in the|libary today,, … lol dum b*tch, why read when theres partyss to go to?” This status displays the expectations adolescents have today, and the discrimination made against other adolescents when they do not comply to such expectations. While still referring to source 1; another negative impact of social media is cyberbullying. Many adolescents cyberbully because many forms of social media provide anonymity, lack of consequences and even social pressure.
I grew up in a world where I was surrounded by technology. Growing up I received my first flip phone at the end of elementary school. I still remember the exact device, it was a T-Mobile Sidekick and I loved it. It was so cool to just flip it open and was the screen rotate upwards and reveal the keyboard.

Constantly being active on Facebook may end up being the site's worst nightmare. In Maria Konnikova's September 10, 2013, The New Yorker article "How Facebook makes us unhappy" she informs us about the negative effects that Facebook has on some of the users. Logging on and having the free will to connect with all of the people you know is what is intended upon when using the site. Although, Konnikova's studies show that most people get on and look at the success and growth of others which then cause unhappiness, loneliness, and envy. Which in other words, without us knowing it, makes us unhappy.
Social media has taken over the lives of a lot of people. There are 8-9 year olds on Facebook now, as well as people who are (as I would say) ancient. Networking websites have their pros and cons; however, in the past couple of years, social media sites have been overloaded with cyber bullying and negativity.
