In the articles “Is Google Making us Stupid” by Nicholas Carr, and “The Taming of Tech Criticism” by Evgeny Morozov, the same topic is addressed and criticized in two very different ways. The topic that both articles are discussing is the effects of technology on human both physically and socially. Carr’s article attempts to display how it is shorting our attention span and mental capacity while Evgeny Morozov discusses the shortcomings of average tech critics such as Carr. Morozov states that Technology critics are avoiding the more complicated and troublesome topics such as the adverse political and economic effects technology is having on society. Instead of examining the effects of technology on more important issues, such as the monetary effects of the new forms of transportation, Carr chooses to discuss the emotional aspects within the argument. What Morozov wishes to see serve as the main argument for those against the effects of technology is that of some value to society. Morozov demands the argument to hold values that directly correlate to everyone in the community which is being effected. For multitasking, we find that the firms using multitasking have a lower share of workers aged 50-59 and 40-49 years in their wage bill and a higher share of workers in the youngest age group” (Shone 12). Shone then goes on to state in his study that with the incorporation of new technologies into the workplace, a bias is formed against older workers. This supports the claims of an economic effect of technology that was previously stated by Morozov, because only younger workers are able to truly grasp and work efficiently on today’s technology, creating a gap in between the two working classes. As for Carr’s argument, this is countered by David Crystal, a British linguist, who claims that texting does
