Have you ever heard of Joker, Magneto, and Darth Vader? They are all evil characters in Batman, X-Men, and Star Wars - well known stories that have been adapted into films. The villainous character is one of the main components of a superb story. The juxtaposition of heroes and villains creates depth in terms of conflict, character development, and resolve. But specifically how do you identify a villain? In the novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis (LWW), the White Witch can be considered a villain because of her external appearance, manipulative tactics, and merciless behavior. Despite the fact that she claims to be human, the White Witch undeniably is not. This fact has been stated in the book where Mr. Beaver explains, “But she’s no Daughter of Eve. She comes of your father Adam’s ... first wife, her they called Lilith. And she was one of the Jinn. That’s what she comes from on one side. And on the other she comes of the giants. No, no, there isn’t a drop of real Human blood in the Witch” (Lewis 88). According to Shmoop, “her ability to simulate humanity without really being human is part of her uncanny evil. In the same way, the whiteness of her face is eerie”. Contrary to simply having pale skin, “her face was white not merely pale, but white like snow or paper or icing sugar, except for her very red mouth.
