Islam began in Arabia and was revealed by the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) to the humanity. People who follow Islam are called Muslims.
The followers of Islam believe that there is only one God. The Arabic word for God is Allah.
The word ‘Islam’ means 'submission to the will of God '.
Islam is the second largest religion with over 1 billion followers throughout the world. The 2001 census recorded 1,591,000 Muslims in the UK, about 2.7% of the population.

The Hijrah
Muhammad 's popularity was seen as a threat by the people in power in Mecca due to which Muhammad (S.A.W) took his followers on a journey from Mecca to Medina in 622.
Hijrah (migration) event was seen as so important for Islam that 622 is the year in which the Islamic calendar begins.
The return to Mecca
Within ten years Muhammad (S.A.W) was able to return and conquer Mecca.From this time on he was generally accepted by the faithful as the true final Prophet of God.Muhammad(S.A.W) continued to lead community spiritually and in earthly matters until his death in 632.

Objections to Islam
Islam doesn’t give any freedom. Apostates are killed in Islam. The saying that “there is no compulsion in Islam” is just a lame and is basically for western consumption. Most and almost every Muslim says that the non killing of apostate verse has been changed in the further revelations. It is a clear concept among Muslims that if they are living in a state were there is no borne out rule for the killing of apostates, they are obliged to kill the apostates by themselves, according to sariah
