Abstract: Scenario
The scenario is about a social worker who works at a local Health Department. She is a part of a medical team that specializes in providing care to those who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. The case that she has been assigned is a challenging case of five men who are HIV/AIDS positive. After her consultation with the department’s physician, she became aware of her clients’ lack of adherence to their antiretroviral medication regime. Due to the lack of adherence, the social worker became aware that her clients’ medical issues had increased. Not only has their health been negatively affected, but their life span has been shortened.

Micro is one of the most common practice of social work which happens directly with an individual client or family. Mezzo is the practice of social work which deals with small/medium groups. Finally, Macro is the practice of social works with larger groups like communities. Self-motivation Adherence strategy is essential at the micro level intervention, because it motivates patients to take control of managing their health (Chye Ng & Caires, 2016). The social worker will talk to the clients about the importance of staying motivated throughout their treatment, in order for the ART to be successful. In order to keep the clients adhering to their regime, the social worker will compensate her clients. She will do so by providing transit tickets, food baskets, hygiene bags, and other small gifts that will mean a lot to her clients. The social worker will provide positive feedback and reinforcements in order to promote self-motivation. This will not only improve their adhering to their ART, but this will improve their medical visits. Not only will the social worker provide all these services, but at the same time she will be advocating the importance of adherence. The social worker will help the client receive all the benefits for which they are eligible. They will have access to medical, which will cover all of their medications and doctor visits. A social worker knows how important it is to get the client set up with the appropriate medical staff. The social worker will make sure that the clients’ education is specific to the ART regimen and that the client remains on a strict adherence plan. Strict adherence to ART is crucial not only to decrease risk of HIV transmission, but also to sustain HIV suppression, reduce risk of drug resistance, and improve overall health, quality of life, and survival (Penkalski,
