Introduction
Many of our favourite meals as Canadians from pasta to pizza come from being so famous in Italy. There are many cities such as Rome and Milan, and many other regions like Tuscany, Piedmont and Veneto that have a wide variety of foods and economic aspects, but overall Italy is known for its spectacular food. (Provinces of Italy, 2002) Many people think of Italy as that boot shaped landmass but they do not know much about their mountainous landform. (Italy Geography, 2015) This makes it very difficult for vegetation to grow considering some of these mountains are also some active volcanoes, mostly in Northern Italy. (Italy Geography, 2015) Southern Italy has a much better climate for vegetation, making it a prime spot for the vegetation to be grown and can be easily transported throughout all of Italy. (Italy Geography, 2015) They grow many fresh foods such as lemons, figs, olives, tomatoes and grapes. (Fruits & Vegetables Grown in Italy, 1997) Besides the fact that their land makes it hard to grow much food, their climate does not make it easy either. Much like Canada, Italy has very cold and wet winters with humid, hot summers. (Italy, 1999) Since the summers are so hot which causes many thunderstorms, growing vegetation is very difficult with the unpredictable droughts and climate. (Italy, 1999) Therefore being a mediterranean climate, any vegetation grown is mostly in the fall where the weather is slightly more predictable. (Italy, 1999) Although they do not have the best land or climate for growing much, they find a way to make profits from their amazing food. Their most popular exports are wine, cheese, cold cuts, sweets, tomatoes, pasta and olive oil which us as Canadians all know we appreciate these fine foods. A majority of Italians are Christian but of course there are others with different beliefs. Some other main religions in Italy are Muslims, Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses and Protestants. (Religion in Italy, 2003) There are many different religions across Italy but a majority of Italians are all brought together with food and gatherings.
Italians are very into celebrating holidays and some of those days consist of Pasquetta (Easter Monday), Feast Day of their Santo Patrono, Capodanno and Festa Del Lavoro. (List of Italian Holidays and Festivals All Year, 2016) But Italian families are not just close on holidays, they usually gather together most nights, or at least every Sunday to eat some of their most famous dishes. Food is meant to bring people together but Italians definitely do it the right way
