“‘Now’ I kept on, ‘after the serotonin passes a message from one brain cell to the next, it gets sucked back into the first brain cell to be used again. But the problem is sometimes your brain cells do too much sucking,’” (Ned Vizzini, page 109). With this being said, “The evidence is very convincing that low levels of brain serotonin and/or norepinephrine cause depression. Current medicines used by doctors to treat depression work by redistributing serotonin and/or norepinephrine effectively tricking the brain into thinking it has more neurotransmitters, but there is none.”(Dr.Kaslow). If the brain thinks this way it begins to want more of the medication or it can counteract the effect and lead to even lower unbalance of the chemicals, which can increase the suicidal thoughts. With these prescriptions there is no way in telling who it will benefit or it will not benefit on.
