Ron Williamson grew up in Ada, Oklahoma, the youngest of three children and his parents’ only son. He played baseball at Asher High School, as his parents moved there so he could play under the school’s legendary coach, Murl Bowen. After hitting 500 in the state championships his senior year, he was the 41st pick in the 1971 amateur draft. He turned down a scholarship offer to the University of Oklahoma and signed and spent the 1972 season primarily with the Coos Bay-North Bend A’s hitting 265 in 52 games in 1973. After he hurt his shoulder, the career ended and he returned home in the late 1970’s.
This past week has been rough for the Robinson family. After a racist jury choose to make an innocent man guilty things went from bad to worse. Atticus Finch was chosen to defend Tom Robinson. This particular case was against Mayella Ewell, a white woman. As a black man Tom was already at a disadvantage.
After serving 24 years in prison for a crime that he did not commit, Andre Hatchett was finally released. This is important to know because so many people have been accused and or convicted of crimes that they did not have any part of. Andre Hatchett was wrongfully convicted of murder because of witnesses and problems with the trial but, was later proven innocent. Many different reasons led to the conviction of Andre Hatchett.
The Trial (jury member) Today was the day of Tom Robinson's trial. From what we the jury were told it was simply a black man against a white man. So at first I figured this wouldn’t take long. The case was about a black man being accused of bearing and taking advantage of a white woman.
WOW! To Kill A Mockingbird has been a popular book for many years. The reason for this is it brings out a main theme which was common back then and still happens now. The theme of racism is seen in the book mainly at Tom Robinson's trial. The Ewell family represents the pride that whites had for innocent blacks.
Anthony Robinson strove all his life to escape the caste system of the ghetto he grew up in. He graduated from a prestigious college and joined the military, only to be falsely identified in a rape case and convicted. He argued many times that he was innocent and was devastated that he ended up in jail, adding to the reputation of those who grow up in the ghetto usually end up in prisons. He had to serve thirteen years in jail before he was paroled able to prove his innocence; he accomplished this with a DNA sample after saving his own money to fund a DNA examination to prove he did not commit the crime and clear his record(1,2). Sadly, Robinson is not the only one who's life was ruined because he was falsely convicted and given no fair trial.
I believe Tom Robinson isn’t guilty. Some ways I could tell this is how he presents his case, his mannerisms, and also how his injuries can make him unable to commit the said crime. The plaintiffs and witnesses supporting them did not present their information in that way. Many of the testimonies were conducted improperly, or weren’t said confidently. Hector Tates was very contradictory, Bob Ewells was disorderly, and Mayellas was abruptly emotional.
Bob Ewell claims that on the night of November 21st, he was out gathering kindle and heard Mayella “screamin’ fit to beat Jesus”. He ran towards the window to discover Mayella being raped by Tom Robinson. When Bob Ewell enters the house to assist with Mayella’s situation, Tom had already left the residence through the front door. After adjusting to the situation, Bob raced to Heck Tate to inform him about the issue. Bob Ewell provided that he saw the room was “slung about” as if “there was a fight”, resulting in Mayella to be “on the floor squallin’”.

On November 21, Mayella Ewell lied because she was scared of her father and what he would do to her if she told the truth. The theme of this case is that Mayella thought she could get away with lying. Mayella Ewell said that Tom Robinson raped her and she went to court and lied about Tom Robinson. Members of the jury, the evidence in this case will show how Mayella Ewell lied about being raped.
Good afternoon, my name is Lucy Caughey, and it is my pleasure to represent Maycomb County and to serve as prosecutor in this important case. On November 21, Mayella Ewell was the victim of rape, the crime was allegedly committed by Tom Robinson, who claims not to have done it. Mr. Robinson says that Mayella attempted to kiss him and grabbed him around the waist, while he was standing on a chair that broke because he fell off while trying to reach a chiffarobe Mayella asked him to break up into kindling. Mayella said he tried to rape her and beat her, there are two sides to the story. I believe that Mayella lied under oath, I believe she lied for a life, for it to not be her, for it to not be someone she knows behind bars for a crime that she didn’t commit.
America was a very racist country since it was founded. Racism was very evident throughout the years. It was extremely evident in the 1930s in Alabama. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, racism played a large role in the outcome of the case of Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white woman.
When pilgrims first sailed to the new world they maintained their roots in English common law despite their quest for religious freedom. The Pilgrims established Colonial law three years after their landing on Plymouth where it was ruled: “that all criminal facts, and also matters of trespasse and debts betweene man and man should be tried by the verdict of twelve honest men to be impaneled by the authority in forme of a jury upon their oath.” The first case of a jury trial was in Plymouth, 1630 when John Billington was accused of murdering John Newcomin, a fellow colonist that was aboard the Mayflower. The defendant, John Billington was sentenced to hang after the jury convicted him of “willful murder by plain and notorious evidence.” Around the same time the Pilgrims settled in what would become Boston,
Dear Members of the Jury, I am writing you this letter to tell to you that Tom Robinson should be proven not guilty. This case would have never happened if the truth would have been told and it wasn’t a case between black and white. There are many ways that Robinson is not guilty. One of these reasons that Tom Robinson is not guilty is that if you listened to the Sheriff 's testimony he stumbled frequently and when he said something and then Atticus would say something different he would agree with Atticus. Tom Robinson is a very polite man with great manners, which you could take into consideration that he wouldn’t dare hurt this woman in this kind of manner.

It is the parents and society that teaches children how to function in a civilized world, and societal laws that keeps them under control. William Golding wrote this novel in the early years of the cold war and the atomic age. In William Golding's classic novel Lord of the Flies, Golding uses Jack, a young savage who looks to lead a group of stranded kids on an island with no food, no rules, and no adults. The effect freedom has on Jack has turned him into a savage because he does not have to listen to anyone since there are no adults on the island.
1. Student goals (2) for each group. Members of AA groups are united by the desire to abstain from alcohol use as it causes a debilitating disease in their lives. Support groups reinforce positive behaviors, increase self esteem and provide safety. The first goal for attending an AA meeting was to identify characteristics of low self esteem related to alcohol addition.
