Conspiracy theories have become a prevalent part of today’s society as the ever-looming belief that the government cannot be trusted further continues to be present thought. A leading conspiracy theory is that the infamous serial killers H.H. Holmes and Jack the Ripper were in fact one in the same. It is believed that H.H. Holmes committed anywhere from 20 to 200 murders during the middle to late 1800’s. He was arrested and tried for the homicides in 1894, but was not convicted until 1895. The next year, in May of 1896 H.H. Holmes was hung for the murder of one of his victims, Benjamin Pitezel, later being laid to rest in a cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The quaint, hardworking area of Londonś East End was forever changed in the year of 1888 thanks to the murders and mutilations of women by the infamous Jack the Ripper. The first occurence of the serial killer was on August 31, 1888, when Mary Nichols body was found early in the morning in a gateway by Charles Cross as he was heading to work along Buckś Row (Jones). Nichols was found with a deep slash to the throat leaving her almost headless as she was examined by Dr. Llewellyn, one of the areaś doctors. Only eight days later was the second victim, Annie Chapman, found with the same cause of death. Later during the examination of the body, it was found that the killer cut out and ran away with Chapmanś womb (Jones).
During the year of 1888, Whitechapel London had a series of grisly murders that were committed by a serial killer that would later be labeled as Jack the Ripper. Each of these women were killed in the early hours of the morning, dismembered, and found in the street. Nichols was the first of several murders that would be perpetrated by the man that would be known as the infamous Jack the Ripper. Her body was discovered on Friday, August 31st, 1888 around 4:00am on Durward St, Whitechapel.

Despite the length of time between murders, the victims were all linked due to a similar modus operandi coupled with similar though not exact signatures led to this conclusion. The truth of the matter however was that of the eleven victims, only six of the eleven victims realistically fell under the acts of Jack the Ripper. Regardless, over the span of just one year, the murders were able to show a repetitive pattern specific to the killer. This pattern was able to be analyzed by investigators and law enforcement of the time to take preventative measures to attempt to halt future offenses. Increasing the presence of constables in eastern London, while focusing on the investigative skills necessary to solve the spree of murders.
