There’s something about jazz. Something that I can never put my finger on, but something that is ever-present. Its unique, Its different. It seems to have a flavor, an aura, and an extremely distinct mood and feel which leaves me far beyond impressed every time.
Maybe it’s the vast amounts of historical and cultural significance the subject holds? Jazz emerged approximately around the late 19th and early 20th century. It was a product of the fusion of not only various but relatively diverse types of music that blended together to form this genre It is mainly attributed though, with the United States and in 1987 was declared a national treasure. It is arguably one of America’s few original art forms, since it was born, seasoned, marketed and then eventually evolved around roughly the same geographic area. Furthermore, even within the United States, it is said to have originated primarily from African American communities. And fittingly so, the two largest influences on jazz music have been ragtime and blues, though classical European music had a huge part to …show more content…

As peculiar as it may seem, syncopation refers to the purposeful addition of rhythms, more likely to be unexpected, that results in a particular segment of a tune off beat. Polyrhythm’s refer to the synchronized use of two conflicting, contradictory rhythm’s. It would be unwise to assume though, that the state of jazz has been constant over they years and that it is more or less the same as it was. Since, a large aspect of it was innately based on improvisation, Jazz is under the process of constant evolution. Secondly, as jazz grew bigger, it had an uneven impact both geographically and culturally, resulting in distinctive styles. My interests, as well as the focus of the rest of the essay though, lie in the story and 2 distinctive styles of Jazz. Namely Bebop and Cool
