In life, there will always be good and bad friends. Those who are good, will always want the best to happen for their friends. On the other hand, those who are bad, will always have a feeling of jealousy towards another. A good friend is just like a four-leaf clover. In the play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by William Shakespeare, jealousy and control is shown throughout the plot and many characters. A character named Helena is very jealous over her best friend, Hermia because Demetrius loves Hermia and not her. At the time Helena was after Demetrius in the woods to make him love her, she was so depeserate that she said, “I am your spaniel, and, Demetrius,/ The more you beat me I will fawn on you./ Use me but as your spaniel: spurn me, strike me,/ Neglect me, lose me; only give me leave/ (Unworthy as I am) to follow you./ What worser place can I beg in your love.” (2.1.210-215) The evidence shows that Helena would be someone who could be asked to do favors for many people. While this position is popular, it is not logigical since Helena’s actions aren’t as as strong as of the character Hermia. This is because Helena seems as if she cannot make decisions by herself and can follow into a trap anytime. She can get very jealous even over her best friend, showing that she would never want the best to happen to others. Hermia on the other hand, will stand up for herself or others whenever she knows something is wrong. Thus, Hermia overrides Helena as being much stronger and one that can express her true feelings
