I am drawn by Aristotle’s saying everyone is born with a clean slate. It’s only over the period influenced by factors of inborn genetic coding, environment and upbringing molds the person to be. The physiological stages of development in our life process are the same across, while it’s the psychological factor that makes a difference in a person’s development. I have had the opportunity of travelling to several countries and have met families from different race and culture. I am fascinated to observe just born and little children and my mind immediately connects to myself and other such children’s back home. How come responses and behavior are same? The pre-operational stage occurs between the age group of 2 to 7 years, while the Formal operational group is between 11 to 16 years. They would see a situation only from their perspective and perceive others also see the same way. Since they can’t make any logical decisions there is nothing for them to analyze. Children in formal operations are more concrete in their thinking and can analyze a situation and act and decide accordingly. They know what they feel need not corroborate with others thinking of the same situation. They have grater verbal assertion. They have ability to solve brain teasers and can create their own logical answers.
Focus:
Children at the pre-operational level tend to focus on just one aspect of a situation at a time. They don’t have the ability for multiple thinking or consequences and get decentralized in their thoughts. I had several times refused to drink milk just because my brother had a different container to drink the same milk. I used to demand for similar container. Another example is assumption. My friends fell ill because they ate at the canteen, today I ate in canteen so I will fall sick. These have no logics.
Children at the formal operations have the ability to analyze a situation from multiple angles. They can see pros and cons of a situation and act accordingly. They know how to measure, use logic
