I. Introduction 1. For my first year of teaching in the greater Los Angeles area, I am assigned to teach in the second grade class. I teach a diverse class consists of twenty five students. In my class I have twelve female and thirteen male students. The age range of my class is from 7 to 8. There are two students with special needs and three students who are English Language Learners. Twenty five percent of my students have African-American identity; the other twenty five percent have Asian ethical identities and the last twenty five percent of my students are Mexicans. B) Needs/Behaviors Related to Cognitive Development The students are in the Preoperational Stage according to Piaget and they need to be transitioned to the Concrete Operational Stage. They experience problems related to inability to take a perspective of other people. 1) Detail one strategy you will use to accommodate these kinds of needs/behaviors, the effect it will have on students, and how that effect will impact ability to learn I will teach abstract concepts using concreate materials because my students are in Preoperational Stage of Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory. 2) Support your reasoning with a citation from the text or other academic resource In the text book Cyco-logy of Teaching and Learning written by E.Lauryl Nagode and Ellen Stohl it is explained that at this stage the students need to use logic in order to solve abstract problems, “Formal Operational (age 12 to adulthood): involves ability to transcend concrete situations and think about the future; solving abstract problems in a logical fashion; thinking more scientifically; developing concerns about social issues and identity.” (Nagode & …show more content…

To avoid any crisis, I will listen to my students and accepting all their answers I will guide them towards the right answer.
