Lesson summary and focus:
I will be reading the story Starfish by Robin Brickman while the students are following along. Once the story is completed, students will design five sentences using who, what, where, why and how about the reading. The students will then have to ask other students questions and answer other students' questions.

The focus of my lesson will be having the students ask and answer questions about the starfish's (Sunflower, Basket star, and mud star) they encountered in Robin Brickman’ starfish.

Classroom and student factors:
In my first grade class, I have a total of 30 students. I have four Ell students, English language learners. I have four students with learning disability and one emotionally disabled student. I have nine below average, 15 at grade level and six above-average reading performance level students. To accommodate for my differentiated students, I will promote a supportive, respectful and fun learning environment. I will have a large collaborative group, independent working time and small discussion groups. The small five groups will have six students. The more involved the students are with the words, the more they will absorb the information. I will have the students highlight the words in the story. Afterwards, I will have the students provide a hypothesis on what they believe the word means. I will then identify the correct meaning of the word. Because the students are only first graders and knowing that just saying the word isn’t enough, I will have them draw pictures of the words. An example, mussels they have to draw and color a mussel on paper. Once they have completed the pictures, the students will read and describe their pictures to the
