You ponder through what seems like an endless amount of shows and movies when you suddenly get to the murder section. All that can be seen is a row of documentaries and shows about numerous serial killers, which all seem to be popular right now. Then you see the show, Dahmer- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. It’s in the top ten, so of course you're intrigued to watch it. As you start to watch it, you begin to wonder why people are so fascinated with this. Why would they fan over something so gruesome? He grew into a rough childhood, his mother was an addict and his father was mostly absent. But, that’s no excuse for anything he did. Throughout high school, he was known to do malicious things, such as sneak into all the club yearbook pictures (see figure 1). By the end of high school, something that was as harmless as a few pranks turned into murder. His first murder took place after his high school graduation; he murdered a guy named Steven Hicks who was hitchhiking. Over the next 7 years ,he ended up doing many things after that: going to the military, going to college at Ohio State, and even becoming an alcoholic. Throughout the years he became worse and over time, he began to kill more people. However, this eventually caught up to him. On July 22, 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer was finally caught after years of being doubted due to him being gay. He was sentenced to 15 life sentences. He was arrested and charged with the death of 17 men and boys as well as sexual assault. Many parents may find it difficult when they discover that their child is different, and Dahmer’s parents may have struggled upon hearing that he was homosexual. We need people to realize that the show isn’t 100% bad, that it’s just the immature society that makes it bad. With that being said, people need to realize that the families weren’t asked if the show could be produced. People were shocked when the news came out about this, even Dahmer’s dad didn’t want to believe that he did it. It’s a lot to process, and the show has had its positives and negatives. But ultimately, the show is beneficial. It helps us learn, and it can be traumatizing to certain people, but it’s better than teens making Tik Tok trends and fandom Instagram pages over a very serious situation and making everyone
