Anna McClendon Mr. Chester AP Psychology 2 October 2017 Jeffrey Dahmer Jeffery Dahmer was an infamous serial killer during the 1970s. He killed only men and usually raped them before cutting of their genitals or their skulls to keep as a trophy. With a troubling childhood, Dahmer had several stressors that affected his life; the main three stressors in his life are chronic stressors, frustration, and life changing events. Chronic stressors have the most influence on Dahmer’s childhood. It started even before he was born. His mother, Joyce, was depressed and bipolar during her pregnancy. His father, Lionel, spent most his days in his lab and away from everyone. Once Dahmer is born, neither one of his parents showed him they loved him. They both argued all the time which later causes Dahmer to give up on marriage completely. To release the anger from his parents fighting, he would go into the woods and beat trees with sticks. He came out as gay at 13 years old after an incident with a boy down the street. Liking men more than women was frustrating for him because he wished he did not feel this way. Being gay made Dahmer feel different from society in a negative way. He was judged because being gay was socially unacceptable in that time. He had to keep it to himself because he knew no one else that was gay. While living with his grandmother, Dahmer wanted to straighten out his life, so he prayed all the time to get rid of it. It was also frustrating for him to find a significant other because he needed someone who could give Dahmer 100% of his attention and that could fulfill his violent and sexual fantasies. Finding someone to fill his needs was near impossible because he would never have been able to share his intimacy with anyone because of his parents’
