Marketing Focus: Lambeau Field In the National Football League (NFL) everyone is building the next biggest and greatest stadium. This trend was started by Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones. Obviously, NFL teams want to be able to fit as many people as they can into their stadiums, in order to sell more tickets. This, in turn, raises profits for the league and the team. Jerry Jones decided to build a massive stadium for the Dallas Cowboys, which holds 80,000 people and could be expanded to up to 110,000 seats, to bring in as many fans into the stadium as possible (What Costs, 2009). This stadium was built for $960,000, which is a miniscule amount compared to the Cowboys AT&T Stadium, which cost $1.3 Billion dollars (What Costs, 2009). Through the years, Lambeau Field has seen nice expansions to try be able to compete with the new massive stadiums being built, such as AT&T Stadium. Originally the Stadium only seated 32,154 people, but today it sits at 81,435 seats which is the second most in the NFL (Packers.com, 2016). The main purpose of Lambeau Field, is to be the home of the Green Bay Packers, but Lambeau Field also hosts hosts concerts and has tours everyday for those who want to see it in its entirety. It has also hosted a Wisconsin Badgers football game, which is going to become a tradition for the Badgers. The city of Green Bay actually owns Lambeau Field, which is unlike many other NFL teams. Packers fans are the biggest customer of Lambeau Field, but other teams fans are also customers of Lambeau field. Opposing teams of the Packers also bring in customers, because fans love to see their teams play. Music fans are also customers of Lambeau Field because Lambeau also has concerts from time to time. Lambeau does not limit their hometown fans to be customers only on game day. They also bring in customers throughout the year due to the Packers’ Pro shop, stadium tours and also various restaurants built into Lambeau. Some competitors of Lambeau Field would be any local entertainment venues. Whether that be movie theaters or Tundra Lodge, which is an indoor waterpark in Green Bay. One competitor of Lambeau Field, is the Green Bay Blizzard. The Green Bay Blizzard is a low level arena football team also located in Green Bay, WI. The Blizzard play in the Resch Center, which has a capacity of 10,200 people. Lambeau Field is unique compared to its competitors because it is home to the Green Bay Packers. In Wisconsin, there are two things we really love, and that is cheese and Green Bay Packers football. We are crazy about our football here, so that gives a huge edge to Lambeau Field over competitors.
