I choose to focus my project upon because I volunteer for the organization annually and have observed leadership styles of program leaders. The Salvation Army K&WM aim to encourage individuals and communities as a whole to be self-sufficient and maintain basic standards of living by offering the following programs: Emergency Assistance, Community Center, Homeless Services, Drug and Alcohol Treatment, Children 's Shelter. This project will assess each programs areas of strength and weaknesses. Areas of Strength: The Salvation Army constantly offer new, innovative products or service to areas of poverty. The Salvation Army has a wide array of professional networks through which resources can be shared and communication can be exchanged regarding the organizations services.
I am a twenty-two-year-old Jewish American with roots in both Russia and Hungary. This makes me an Ashkenazi Jew. An Ashkenazi Jew is someone whose ancestors originated in Eastern Europe. I was raised as a Reform Jew during my childhood, and I still practice my religion. I like to go to the temple on High Holy Days and celebrate holidays with my family.

I love working with children and have an interest in the homeless epidemic, which seems to be especially serious in Pittsburgh. I have decided to volunteer through the Homeless Children’s Education Fund, specifically at the Sojourner House MOMS after school program and the children’s programs. Sojourner House MOMS program provides a safe and independent housing system for homeless, single mothers who are diagnosed with both a drug addiction and a mental health disorder. The program helps mothers to continue their recovery journey and eventually helps them to transition back into the community.
Through my graduate studies, volunteer experiences, and mentorship, I hope to learn how to become an effective leader and a person who can make a difference in the world by finding ways and means to better serve the children and the youths in our communities and
I, as my application states, have the label of "Jewish" next to my name. To me "Jewish" had always been little more than just that, a label. I attended Sunday School for several years, spending the majority of my time there wishing I could be doing just about anything but sitting in that small, rundown building. My mom had always attended Sunday School as a child. Naturally, she believed I should be raised similarly.
For immigrants, refugees and the impoverished, the weekend does not mean a reprieve in the struggle to get by, which is why Amtul Atya Kazmi finds herself working on a Saturday. She’s managing a 24-hour hotline, and one woman has already called in asking for help. Kazmi spends her days like this, dedicating her time to those who need it most. Kazmi works as Chicago’s Coordinator of Muslim Family Services, a department of a non-governmental organization known as the Islamic Circle of North America-Relief. Her job requires her and her team of part-timers and volunteers to aid more than 1,000 people each year.

It wasn't the classes or the teachers, instead it was my peers who made attending school a challenge. I remember feeling extremely isolated like I had no one to turn to. Woefully, I was tormented for something I couldn't even control; my religion.
The Jewish home and family as its core are the basis for the existence of the Jewish people. That's why the Jews created a greater awareness of the importance of behavior in the context of marriage about purity laws home. The Torah teaches to distinguish between pure and impure, and what can cause damage to our body and soul. The Jewish religion seeks to give us life at its best and, obviously, not death. Away from all that is bad to the body and the soul, so that our people not to defile the temple disappears.
While Volunteering at the local Catholic family center, I was able to make connections on what I learned in class. Through the different readings, I was able to identify the similarities of the people that I worked with and their life situations to the theme of the books and documentary that we focused on in class. The people that I worked with were fellow refugees and immigrants seeking help to become US citizens. I was responsible to pre- screen the applicants and make sure that they met the requirements and had the proper paperwork to be able to move on the next step. Having been through that process myself, I was able to provide some comfort and share my personal experience to the to the clients because this process that can be very stressful.
The definition I take away from the word culture is a group of people with the shared beliefs, values and practices. However, there are many different types of groups that have are cultured. For instance, and probably the first thought of culture when thinking about culture groups is religious cultures. But there are so many different genres such as national culture also known as foreign culture. There is ethnic culture or culture of diversity, pop culture, and even corporate culture.
