“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future,”-John F. Kennedy. Change is what shapes into who we are. In the book Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, Jim Hawkins changes due to the death of friends and family, relationships with Long John Silver, and the changes of environment around him. The deaths of friends and family begins, with the passing of his own father (Stevenson 9). After the death of his father Jim had to lean to the Captain as a sort of father figure. As we know, the captain is not the greatest of role models, matter of fact Jim is probably a better role model for the captain than vise-versa. Unfortunately, more sorrow was yet to come when Blind man Pew comes to the Admiral Benbow. After quite some time of arguing the Captain was struck sober (31). Then as he stood up his legs failed and he fell to the ground (32). Considering these events came back to back he could have been very depressed . Soon after Jim meets Silver for the first time at the docs. At this time they had a very welcoming introduction to each other, despite Jim was a little frightened by him (75-77). But as one of the many conflicts of Long John Silver, he demands that they find treasure (186). But then when the finally do find treasure, Silver decides that he will get the most treasure since he was the most part of it, and Jim would get the least amount of Treasure because he was the youngest.
