Joaquin Murrieta once said, “there is nothing so dangerous in its consequences as an injustice to individuals.” If Joaquin Murrieta knows anything about life it is about suffering injustices throughout his lifetime. Joaquin is known for being an outlaw, leader, and founder of an outlaw gang during the Gold Rush named the Five Joaquins. In history, there have been many versions of Joaquin Murrieta; some people describe Joaquin Murrieta as a real-life Robin who stole from the rich to give to the poor, and others describe him as a fifty robber who robbed for his own benefit. The truth is that Joaquin Murrietta was not good but not bad either; he was just human and just did what he needed to survive. The gang was known to operate between the years 1850 and 1853 and the gang was known for having committed the most crimes during the Gold Rush. Going back to Joaquin Murrieta the leader and founder of the gang, he was born in the year 1829 in Álamos, Sonora, Mexico, and died on July 25, 1853, in Mariposa County, California. It was believed he was between twenty-four and twenty-five years old when he lost his life in a gunfight in Mariposa. It is also known that he was married to a woman by the name of Rosita Carmel Feliz. Before becoming an outlaw and founding his gang the Five Joaquins he was a gold miner and a vaquero. For those who don’t know vaquero translates to a cowboy in English, and the job of a vaquero or cowboy consisted of driving herds of animals into a territory and breeding stocks of animals for ranchers or rancheros.
