When thinking of sports, what do you think of? Maybe big name sports players like Lebron James, Micheal Jordan, Tiger woods, or others. Maybe it's Basketball, soccer, football, or volleyball. When digging deeper into sports and players it is just like politics. Now sports and politics actually go hand and hand when it comes to a player messing up. Everyone messes up, but when it's a player it's different. They get slammed either no matter how they dress, appear, or talk. For example Tiger woods was in a suit, had a written out speech, and was at a conference. Most athletes will try and turn their apologies on you. In Tiger Woods' speech he says “I am not better than you, and I am grateful for something that you have done for me”(source) He goes on to say “Many of you in the room are my friends. Many of you in this room know me. Many of you have cheered for me, or worked for me, or supported me,and now, every one of you has a good reason to be critical of me.”( source) Tiger Woods had been caught cheating on his wife and had to give a speech. In that speech he had to use denial, bolstering, differentiation, and transcendence to seem sincere and apologetic. Woods has since recovered from this scandal and is back into deals with sponsors and brands that he had lost during this time period. In the movie 8 men out we can see the same strategies used as Tiger Woods. In 8 men out 8 players from the white sox were accused of throwing the world series 1919. These players had to talk to many people and seem as sincere and truthful as possible.
