The Social Media Agenda of John Green Indiana resident John Green certainly plays a large role in social media. He is an author of young adult fiction, philanthropist, vlogger, and a creator of online videos. His large fanbase fell in love with his relatable books about the teenage years, along with his quirky personality. As a result, millions of fans look up to him and view him as their role model. One of these passions is the Project for Awesome. This project is a community- driven charitable movement on Youtube, created by John and Hank Green. It was formerly named the Nerdfighter Power Project for Awesome and it has taken place every December since 2007. The movement was created to have Youtubers make and create innovative videos promoting their favorite charity, uploading it by a certain deadline. The aim in mind is that their promoted charity gains more awareness and donations from audiences. In 2013, a final total of $869,591 was raised for such charities as UNICEF, Toys for Tots, and Autism Speaks. As the Project for Awesome continued to grow in number, the Green brothers implemented a system of perks on the Project’s fundraising page. Green had promoted the book previous to it being published to his Twitter followers. The Wall Street Journal felt compelled enough to action to write an article on his success.
