He excelled in sports in high school being a four sport athlete. He went to UCLA until he had financial struggles and had to drop out. When World War One started he became a second lieutenant but never saw contact. When the war ended and he came back to baseball he found a spot on the Kansas City monarchs. When Brooklyn Dodgers manager Branch Rickey saw him he quickly put him on his team and he played for the all white Montreal Royals a farm team.
When he was attending UCLA he played four sports. He excelled at baseball and football, but also played basketball and ran track. For a little while he played football for the Los Angeles Bulldogs in the Pacific Coast league (Literary reference center). But after returning from the war he joined the powerhouse Kansas City Monarchs of the negro leagues (Funk and wagnalls new world encyclopedia). He hit 714 homeruns in his entire career. He also played twenty-two years in the major leagues. At the age of forty-one he retired in the year of 1936. I know I could be a Drum Major because of my passion for band and my ability to lead. Ever since I first picked up a trumpet in fifth grade, I realized that I have a passion of music. The joy of not only learning the language, but picking up a horn and playing it was an experience unmatched by anything else. Fast Forward four years to my first band camp, both nerve racking and electrifyingly exciting. While music rehearsal happened and I felt excited for the coming four years, nothing could compare to the first day of marching, taught by Anna, Connor, and Jake.
World war 1 was a very catastrophic moment in the world. World war1 was very intense and bad. World war 1 was very unique because it was very much different from other wars. Another reason why World war 1 was unique was because people used advanced industrial technology and weapons. And also because the unprecedented number of countries that took part.
