Arthur Miller, the author of The Crucible, analogizes Salem to a crucible with violent witchcraft accusations and chaotic events predominating everyone’s lives. For instance, the protagonist, John Proctor, is forced to make a choice at the end of Act Four—to falsely confess of communicating with the Devil and live to take care of his family, or to be convicted and have a pure reputation. Proctor’s ultimate decision to deny the false confession is virtuous because it restricts his inner guilt, saves his reputation, and shows a valiant stance against the insanity of Salem’s witch trials. John Proctor’s affair with Abigail Williams haunts him with internal guilt and tarnishes his reputation, but his decision to sacrifice his life solves these

This is because, if he confess and avoid death, his child cannot inherited anything and Elizabeth lived with suffer because her husband is a witch. But, Proctor doesn’t confess that he is witch, and be honest to his child and wife.
Moreover, another important crucible someone had in the story developed from the very beginning all the way to the end. While in the house talking to Elizabeth, they have a conversation about what John has done and how she cannot forgive him, he must forgive himself, “You will not judge me more, Elizabeth” (54-55). He says she forgets and forgives nothing but he will not forgiving himself.

When I graduated from high school and had to choose a major in college I had to think about what kind of life I wanted and what career would allow me to a have life like that. The advice I could relate the most to, was from my father that one should have a life and work where one can have a peace of mind and go to sleep every night with a clear conscience. This asked for a career choice that holds its ethical values in high regard. When I started meeting different professionals, family members, friends one thing became clear that almost all professionals complained of ethical problems they face, being forced to do things they didn’t feel were right or they just had to do them to get things going. Two professions stood tall above all this problem,
