Brutality In “Of Mice and Men” animals and even humans are being mistreated and disrespected. Animals are being killed and even strangled to death, which is not the right way to treat animals. People are also being brutal to other people in the book. Candy, one of the main characters had a dog. The dog did not have a name.
Our situation was briefly about how your men jumped into a river in order to save their fallen items. After being chased by an enormous bear that required eight shots in order to be taken down, your pirogue starts to sink bring all of your important items with you, including your maps, instruments and journals. In our corps group, Kaylee, Lainie, and Rebecca decided that they would jump in the water. They also use the fact that they need their belongings more than anything else on their journey. Flags of Our Fathers is a book about the Battle of Iwo Jima. There were young men from teenagers to adults. Many of the young men that joined didn 't want to have anything to do with war, but when they joined they had a duty to fulfill. Their duty is the legal obligations that they have to follow which means that if they are sent to war they have to do their jobs. All the men that fought in this battle have motivation.
There is multiple conflicts throughout this book, each one involving a different character. Every chapter, there was a new conflict which was the plot of that chapter. From the beginning of the book, when they met the boss, to the end where Lennie was shot by George. One of the main conflicts of this book is when Curley thinks Lennie is laughing at him, but Lennie really isn’t. Since Curley is known as a boxer, he enjoys ruffling someone’s feathers; also, Curley likes to always talk about himself and be the center of attention all the time.
John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath elaborates on
Michael Oher faces adversity throughout the whole movie making him have to overcome it to be the best he can be. It when Michael meets Leigh Ann Touhy and her family on the sidewalk in the pouring rain that he believes like he belongs to the world and that he just just got past the first step of overcoming adversity. Lennie has no family apart from George who he annoys constantly and being disabled and slow, his capabilities are limited as he would not be able to survive on his own. The only 'Family' Lennie has is George Milton, his friend who stays by his side to make sure he is safe. This is due to George promising Lennie's aunt that he would take care of him.
Steinbeck uses a lot of foreshadowed that Lennie well get into trouble again. The first foreshadowed is when George and Lennie are at the green pool George tells Lennie to come back here and hide in the brush when he get in trouble. This show us that Lennie well get into trouble it just a matter of when. The second foreshadowed is when George and Lennie first seen Curley and how Curley went after Lennie just because he a big man. This show that Curley going to pick a fight with Lennie later on.
In the story “All Quiet on the Western Front,” WW1 is narrated by a German soldier, Paul. The war is explained as having mainly negative effects on the soldiers: “...men who, even though they may have escaped its shells, were destroyed by the war.” (1) In the beginning of the novel, Paul and his friends dreams about what their life would be like if there was peace. Their view on the war’s brutality is not deep, but many feel it has ruined any chance at a normal life.
The book, The Trials of Kate Hope, is about a 14 year old girl that becomes a young lawyer who partner up with her grandfather. The author of this book is Wick Downing and the period of the setting happened in 1973. Kate gets a case about a dog, named Herman, that is going to be executed. Kate works on other trial cases as she gathers evidence for the Herman’s case. Along the way she experiences some difficulties with her friendships and life tasks.
The final segment of Jane’s narrative ‘The Quarters’ concerns Blacks who transgress the rules of old - written and unwritten. Jane in her eighties moves back to the quarters from Samson’s house. Jane describes the community in this portion of her narrative. It consists of people searching for dignity even if they must settle for the vicarious esteem derived from the exploits of Black athletes. It is here that Jane spots Jimmy and identifies him as their ‘messiah’.

In Of Mice and Men violence is extremely prevalent and also a major theme. Each character is so accustomed to their misfortune and failure, which results in them becoming agitated and more frustrated with each other. Violence and bullying are used as outlets for their stress and misery. An example of a character that suffers from this violence is Crooks. He decides to torment Lennie by touching on the idea about George’s safety being in danger, however crooks intentions came from the discrimination and isolation he felt unlike some of the other workers, Crooks wasn't just passing by.
“The Pearl”, written by John Steinbeck is the story of a man who lives in the town of La Paz in the state of Baja California, Mexico, during the 1900s, a period of colonialism. Within the context of the story, the author uses themes of power and corruption to show the capability and dishonesty caused by power. The Spanish descendants use their power to subjugate the indigenous. The story shows how the character Kino goes from a state of powerless poverty to controlling power. Kino is corrupted by the pearl making him ultimately responsible for his family’s plight.

My perfect writing place would be a place where privacy and quietude reign. The atmosphere would cause me to be enveloped in my writing so my thoughts fill each page. I want to be immersed in my work and have no distractions to disrupt my writing. When I write I want to be comfortable, and feel as if I can simply relax and write without the pressure of others. In my perfect workspace I would have all the materials I need to write effectively and efficiently.
