In the novel, Frankl informs the reader on how to be successful. Success comes from hard work and determination. If one were to put in the effort to something, then they would be successful. Frankl states, “Don’t aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the byproduct of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself. Love is an intense feeling of affection for someone or something. But does that mean one can only love the physical structure of someone or something. Frankl illustrates, “Love goes very far beyond the physical person of the beloved. It finds its deepest meaning in its spiritual being, his inner self. Whether or no he is actually present, whether or not he is still alive at all, ceases somehow to be of importance.” Frankl thinks love is more than a physical affection. He thinks love is necessary for his survival. During the Holocaust Frankl and his wife got split up. Frankl’s love for his wife is what kept him alive. He believed he was going to see her again when he was freed from Auschwitz. What he didn’t know, and didn’t want to know, is that she was killed in a concentration camp. I think the quote spot on for the definition of life in today’s world. Life is demanding to everyone, not just some people. In the sectional semifinal game against Barnesville, my junior year basketball is where life demanded the most from me. My team was leading by four going into the fourth quarter. Two minutes left to go in the game, we found ourselves down by two. Coach Romick called our last timeout, and told us the game plan. Coach Pfalzgraf walked over to me during the timeout and challenge me to bring us back to win the game. In that moment all I could think about was my grandfather. I did it for him, I scored four of our eight points in the closing minutes of the game. During the last two minutes of the game we outscored Barnesville by six points to go on to win by four. After the game I could not stop thinking of how proud my grandpa would be of me. Through the tiredness, doubt, and pain, we all dug deep, and pulled out a win.
