Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (Education). Education is a crucial making an intelligent and prosperous world. Every person is entitled to an equal education, deserving to be taught and have the ability to learn at the same beneficial level as any other person. However, the disparity between what some have for a school and what others have for schools that far surpass the others is unacceptable. Children in the United States are not getting the education they deserve to receive. Jonathan Kozol wrote Savage Inequalities that portrays the conditions that children must go to school with. However, staying objective in reporting such injustice and disadvantage is nearly impossible. In reading Savage Inequalities, there were moments that seemed to be portrayed to be slightly slanted towards making some of the more privileged schools seem to be selfish, ignorant, and egocentric environments. Kozol writes about making it equal with those in Cherry Hill “‘First, they wouldn’t be equal. You know that as well as I. So long as there are no white children in our school, we’re going to be cheated” (187). This may be true; however, the portrayal makes those in Cherry Hill seem to care only about the students if they are white. Although some of the views were slightly slanted, his findings in the schools were rather correct to the truth in those schools. Trying to remain objective in such emotional and life-shattering situations is very difficult, but the author does his best to show the findings about each of these schools as accurate as they
