Julius Caesar Argumentative Essay

341 Words2 Pages
After Julius Caesar’s death, two funeral speeches were given. The first speech was given by Brutus, one of the murderers. The second speech was given by Julius Caesar’s best friend, Mark Antony. The question is, who’s speech was better? The main purpose of Brutus’s speech was to convince the commoners that killing Julius was the right thing to do. He uses the word, “Ambitious,” to describe Julius obviously giving it a double meaning. One of the main points during his speech is how he loved Caesar, but he loved Rome and the people more. This may be true, but throughout his entire speech, Brutus stands above the crowd, almost as if he thinks he is better than all of them. He uses tactics like repetitive words to draw the crowd into his lies.
