Julius Caesar Argumentative Essay If you were a Roman in the B.C. ages, whose speech would you believe Antony’s or Brutus’? In the play “Julius Caesar” by William Shakespeare , two men which were close friends to Caesar gave a speech about Julius’ death and tried to make the Romans believe their speech. Antony’s speech seems to be much more effective because he uses facts. Antony talks the truth about Caesar, when remembering the good he has done and says “He hath brought many captives home to Rome whose ransoms did the general coffers fill” (II16). Antony after asked what seemed ambitious about Caesar when he refused the crown. “You all did see that on the Lupercal I thrice presented him a kingly crown which he did refuse” (II25).Caesar didn't seem ambitious he seemed much more like a reliable king the Romans saw him as. Antony seemed much more closer to Caesar. Antony said “He was my friend ,faithful and just to me” (II13), which supports him in his speech. It truly does seem like Caesar and Antony were close when Antony felt like his “heart was in the coffin there with Caesar” (II34). Antony is really saddened by Caesar’s death and he feels as he was “back-stabbed” as he was loyal to him and how close and caring he was for him. …show more content…

Brutus said he loves and cares for Rome when he explains “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more” (I11). Brutus creates doubt when he questions the people “Had you rather that Caesar were living and die slaves, than that Caesar were dead to live all freemen” (I12). It seems as though Brutus does have reasoning in his speech, but seems jealous of the power he doesn't have. Antony has more of a valid reason by relating to what the Romans feel. Brutus deserves the benefit of the doubt because you never know what would happen, but Antony is more
