Title of Your Report In “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar” both Brutus and Caesar exhibited many flaws, some of which were deadly. Every living person still today has flaws in themselves, but not all flaws lead to a person being named a tragic hero. Julius Caesar was claimed to have many faults which in turn led to his downfall. Caesar's flaws, however, were not that of which a tragic hero would have. Brutus, on the other hand, was responsible for causing his own downfall through the actions and decisions he made. Caesar was killed by other peoples actions, not specifically his own, unlike Brutus. Although the play is named after Julius Caesar himself, Brutus is in fact the tragic hero of the story. Brutus could have enjoyed the benefits of being friends with the king. The second major decision Brutus made was when he ignored Cassius's warnings about killing Antony. Brutus not only let Antony live, but he allowed him to speak at Caesar's funeral. The choice to not kill Antony made Brutus seem noble, but letting Antony speak at the funeral shows Brutus’s ignorance of warnings from other people, and how Brutus thinks his ideas are the best. Brutus had a philosophy of stoicism, which is the act of thinking of things using only logic. Brutus using logos to only think of things, is part of the reason he let Antony speak. For instance in Act III, Scene ii, lines 15-16 Brutus is asking the crowd of commoners to listen to him and think logically, even though throughout the story before that the commoners did not think logically. This fault in Brutus is perhaps his greatest one, but Brutus exhibited one more fault that led to the final nail in his coffin. In Act IV, Brutus and Cassius are arguing over which course of action to take with the legions.
