A number of politicians saw Caesar as an aspiring king. And Romans had no desire for monarchical rule: Legend has it that it had been five centuries since they'd last allowed a king to rule them. Caesar's inclusion of former Roman enemies in the government helped spell his downfall and assassination by Longinus and Brutus. After his death, Caesar quickly became a martyr in the new Roman Empire. A mob of lower- and middle-class Romans gathered at Caesar's funeral, with the angry crowd attacking the homes of Cassius and Brutus.
Death of the Republic 91202 James Morrissey Power in a name Julius Caesar was popular among the citizens of Rome. Caesar had gained this popularity due to his successes in war for Rome and the laws he created for the wellbeing of Rome. The reason Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC was due to declaring himself dictator for life of Rome. This is because the term dictator was considered a toxic word in Roman politics as almost all previous dictators had been tyrants in Roman history. The senators who assassinated Caesar believed that they would be celebrated for killing Caesar .
William Shakespeare once wrote a play titled, “The Tragedy of Julius Caesar,” and the play displayed the events following up to Caesar’s murder and the events that followed. The whole premise of the play was the plot against Caesar, and the effects it had on the people afterwards. Unfortunately, it had a negative effect on the man who murdered Caesar in cold-blood, Brutus. He killed himself, and at the end of the play, the man who once opposed him, Mark Antony, called him, “the noblest Roman of them all.” Was he the savior or traitor of Rome?
Was Julius Caesar a hero or a villain? Was he greedy for land and money or was he just trying to help the Roman Empire? I believe Julius Caesar was a hero and a reformer because of all the astonishing things he did to help the citizens of the Roman Empire. First of all, Julius Caesar was an unbelievable military leader and emperor.
Instead of focusing on fixing the Roman Republic, the assassination brought Rome into another civil war as Caesar’s supporters battled the assassins and then each other. As a result of the wars, tens of thousands of Rome’s citizens died in the bloody battles, and once defeated, Brutus and Cassius each committed suicide. “Julius Caesar was a successful military leader who expanded the republic to include parts of what are now Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium. Caesar was also a popular author who wrote about his travels, theories, and political views.” (Julius Caesar Assassinated)
Julius Caesar is one of the most infamous Roman dictators in history, both because of his rule in Rome and his tragic death. Caesar rose to the top by gaining trust and joining forces with Pompey and Crassus in 60 BC (Britannica 7). Unfortunately, his power was short-lived as he was killed on the floor of the Curia Di Pompeo by his threatened rivals and friends (Mcdougal 162). Though he was the dictator of Rome for a short period, he granted many reforms that helped develop the foundation of ancient Roman culture (Britannica 8). Starting from humble beginnings, Caesar climbed the political ladder and proved himself worthy of the title of dictator for life.

Heroism is a very debatable topic in this day and age, I often find myself thinking, what truly does make a hero? I believe that in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, Caesar himself displays the most hero-like qualities, above all the other characters. I understand that that seems like a very bold statement to make, so to prove it, I’ll have to answer the question I asked from before, what makes a hero? In my opinion, there are three distinct qualities that make up a true hero.
As Rome grew the patricians and plebeians, or ordinary people, started to not get along and the republic fell. Luckily, Julius Caesar rose to the occasion and became the dictator but was later stabbed 23 times for gaining too much power too fast. Caesar’s adopted son, Augustus

Who was Julius Caesar? Was he a great hero, or an evil dictator? I believe that Julius Caesar was a hero because he ended the rule of corrupt Roman leaders, aided the poor, and brought order and peace to Rome. Firstly, Julius Caesar ended the rule of corrupt Roman leaders. For example, he helped overturn laws that only benefited the rich.
One of the likely reasons Julius Caesar was killed was his obliviousness to stay seated while the Senators went to the sanctuary of Venus Genetrix. Suetonius saw this condition as a reprehensible affront (78). As well as Appian who reports it as "slanderers a reason for indicting him of wishing to be welcomed as a ruler" (107). As a matter of fact Suetonius says that Julius had a negative reaction to Pontinus Aquila when he didn 't ascend for him (78). In some ways Julius is being hypocritical towards Aquila, but Julius doing the exact same insult to the senate.
Some will say the opposite about him, but I believe he is a true Roman Hero. I believe that Julius Caesar was a hero, who did his work haughtily and contentedly. This is my belief because he made the Senate larger, was popular with the middle and lower classes, and he took dangerous political risks. One of the reasons he is a hero is, he made the Senate bulkier. By making the Senate larger he gave the people more representation.
Julius Caesar was the Dictator of Rome in 42 BC who accomplished many things. Many people believed that he was a hero, but Julius Caesar was a very ambitious dictator and was more of a villain than a hero. Julius Caesar was a villain because he didn’t think first before doing something, he forced the Senate to name him dictator for life and he also was a glory hound and put his needs before the republic. To begin with, Julius Caesar was a was a glory hound and put his needs before the republic. Caesar used his power as dictator more towards his advantage instead of helping the people in Rome.
