Teen Court Teen court also known as youth courts is a juvenile justice system program that permits teens to try and sentence their fellow peers for committing minor and status offenses. The main purpose of the teen court is to make young offenders accountable for their wrong doing by paying the price for their offences. However this system keeps first time offenders away from the Juvenile system and gives them a chance to change. In order for a youth to be considered to serve on a teen court, the young individual must be 8th to 12th grade with good academic standing, the teen must be nominated by teacher, parent or him or herself, an application must be filled up and signed with the parent’s approval.
As the book mentioned there are always changing policies and laws, and we are not at a point where all the issues are worked out however, getting rid of the whole juvenile system would result in an overflow of cases to an already backlogged adult court system. As well getting rid of the system would leave the juveniles vulnerable to harsher punishment. The juveniles would not get the same care in regards to less punitive punishment, as well as there would be less rehabilitative punishment options. These juveniles need to be treated humanely and in a matter where someone can advocate for them so that their crime may not derail their whole life and effect future education, career goals, as well as normal everyday life. Typically, these juvenile offenders have recently been released from juvenile detention and have returned to live with their families. The purpose of a Juvenile Probation Officer is to prevent the juvenile from reoffending. To prevent reoffending the Juvenile Probation Officer regularly meets with the juvenile and their families to ensure the juvenile is following the guidelines of the courts ("Juvenile Probation Officers | Job Description and Duties," n.d.).
Juvenile Justice Essay In the United States, there have been many cases where a juvenile would be found guilty and be tried as an adult. There are other cases where those juveniles are tried as adult forever. I am against charging juveniles as adults when they commit violent crimes, the juveniles lose many educational opportunities and the adult system is far too dangerous for the young juveniles. Juveniles are also young kids but only the fact that they do not get the same amount of education or experience that other teens gain.
In this case study, it will show the conflict that young teens are having with police officers in their communities. During several mentoring sessions conducted at the Department of Juvenile Justice, with 35 young males between the ages of 13 through 18, the questions were asked, ‘what do they think of law enforcement, ‘how were they treated when approached by the police,’ and ‘what are their attitudes towards law enforcement?’ Although the case study was conducted with young males in the Juvenile Justice system, does not denigrate how law enforcement treated them. In society, today, there is case after case where young teenage males are engaging with law enforcement daily.

Juvenile Justice System In recent years the United States has typically diminished the amount of incarcerations among the youth by strictly putting away kids that commit more severe crimes while delivering other lesser punishments to the minor crimes. West Virginia on the other hand, has continued to lock up a majority of crimes committed by the youth no matter how severe. The correctional facilities within the state are overflowing now and are seeing less and less effective results when the delinquents are finally released.
I feel and believe that Colorado’s Justice System has become increasingly harsh and punitive over time because juvenile is committing more crimes and murder. I feel that Colorado’s Justice System is becoming harsh and punitive over time because the juvenile is exhibiting such characteristics such as not caring and engage in risking behavior such as committing crimes such as murder, robbery, and other horrible crimes. I feel and believe that it could deter some of the juvenile crime problem but I don’t believe it will fixed the juvenile crime problem because it will still be juvenile that will still commit crimes .I feel having harsh and punitive is a good thing when dealing with juvenile who have been sentence life without parole it will show
Juveniles should be trialed as adult and receiving major punishment when committing a capital offense. When being a danger to society as a child under the age of 18, the chances of this child reversing his or her way is slim to one. But as always that one can make a difference. Children need role models to shape them in to a law bidding citizen. With out the proper knowledge they are not learning right from wrong.
In our society, crimes are being committed not only by adults but by juveniles as well. By law as soon as a person turns 18 they are considered to be an adult. So what if an adult and a juvenile were to commit the same crime yet were sentenced differently simply based on the fact that one is a child and one is an adult? Juveniles are committing violent crimes just as adults and should be given the equal treatment and sentencing as adults receive. Juveniles aren’t completely ignorant as everyone seems to think.
Juvenile Justice Should juveniles get treated as adults that’s one of the biggest controversy in our nation now days, with many juveniles committing crimes that are inconceivable according to their age. Judges have the last word on how to treat this young people. Many people argue that “the teens that are under eighteen are only kids, they won’t count them as young adults, not until they commit crimes. And the bigger the crime, the more eager this people are to call them adults” (Lundstrom 87). This is why people can’t come to a decision as how these young people should be treated like.
Can you imagine waking up behind closed walls and bars? Waking up to see your inmate who is a 45-year-old bank robber and you are a 14-year-old minor who made a big mistake. This is why minors who have committed crimes should not be treated the same as adults. Some reasons are because the consequences given to minors in adult court would impact a minor’s life in a negative way. If a minor is tried through a juvenile court, they have a greater chance of rehabilitation.
