Supporting Evidence We have to bare in mind that a minor's brain is still not fully developed. They are still not completely capable of understanding the right from wrong as an adult is But as a pro to this .Teenagers, unlike adults, are more capable of change in their criminal ways/actions. Teenagers are also less likely to commit any offences again (Hertz, Randy) after being sent to or put through any type or reformation. This shows that minors truly are misguided and are just in need of a little push in the right direction. Because teens are still developing,it is only just that we do not hold accountabilities against them for they clearly do not know any better. Especially those from low income homes. A good example would be the current justice system provided for juveniles. The current juvenile justice system consists of responses that currently do not do enough in guiding minors into the path of light. It has been noticed that some juveniles who have returned form provided facilities still do not understand the consequences and so have not received the proper reform or education needed in order for the minor to move on from their life of crime and onto a better one. A statement made from a police officer, Robert Listenbee “We need to tailor our responses to heal those who have been harmed.” (Wahovik, Lindsey) showing that minors are entering facilities and coming out still uneducated on the future consequences that will occur if their lives continue down the path they’re on. Another good example would be video games. Various studies depict that video game violence is one of the many causes of violence and bullying amongst minors as well as grown ups. One study shows that a group of minors were made to play a violent game and another group to play a non-violent game. Yes, the minors did cause the offense but you must attack at the root source. You must ask why did the minor commit the offense? Nine time out of ten, It is because the minors are incapable of justifying their own actions and most likely feel as if they have no one to turn to for their needs and so commit their acts in order to feel a sense of responsibility of themselves. The parents, in my opinion, do need to be taken accountable to a degree, It is their child and their child is their responsibility. The parent should know how to take care of the child, monitor the child, raise the child, scold and praise the child and if they are incapable of doing so, child services need to come into play and remove the child from the household and away from the dysfunctional home. Moving onto statements made by interviewees on videogames and social media, one person said “People in the middle ages were chopping off each others heads. They didn’t have any TV or Mario Kart” a comment made by Stacy. (Sohn, Emily) This argument is highly invalid. To compare a series of punishment tactics that occurred in an era where civilization was still in the making and then compare it to our modern day society where our laws are more liberal
