Kareem's Argument Analysis: Religion Has Nothing To Do With Terrorism

Religion has Nothing to do with Terrorism Due to the many terrorism attacks happening in America Kareem Abdul- Jabbar decided to write an argument where he says why Islam religion has nothing to do with these attacks. However, Kareem’s argument is missing some of the rhetorical strategies. Mostly, he uses logos in his argument such as the terrorist attacks, and the attack in Paris. He tries to persuade the public to believe him, however he fails to do so due to lack of evidence. He mentions that Americans have made mistakes, however he doesn’t mention the mistakes that America has done. Also, he didn’t quite use any pathos in his argument, so he fails to get the emotions of the Islamophobic. He could improve his argument if he were to show evidence and use pathos to get the attention of those who fear Muslims. Kareem Abdul- Jabbar’s argument argues that religion is not responsible for terrorism. He mentions attacks that have happened in the past and how the Islam does not have anything to do with them. Jabbar mentions in his article that the attacks happening are more about money and not about changing the societies behavior. According to Kareem the attacks are more about business than religion. In his article, he talks about mistakes that Americans has done but he doesn’t say what those mistakes are. (para 5) He could improve his argument if he were to specify the mistakes that were done by the Americans. Also in one of his sentence he says, “knowing that these terrorist attacks are not about religion…,” he didn’t mention why the audience should believe that these attacks are not about religion. (para 6) If he were to point out the reasons why the attacks are not about religion his argument will then be more believable.
