Everyone has an untold story waiting to be revealed, some truths that remain hidden. Kate Swift is a young, ordinary, and seemingly average women. At the age of thirty she is still unmarried, alone. Kate was first brought up in the story The Strength of God by Sherwood Anderson. Where she was used as a temptation for Curtis to test his faith. In The Teacher she was used as a enlightenment took for George. Reverend Curtis Hartman, a man of Ggod, lives the ideal life is a reverend. He is immensely devoted to the church and his beliefs. Yet, the Reverend is unhappily married and feels a loss of the spark he once had for his wife and teaching the word of God. “Day by day as she worked in the schoolroom or walked in the streets, grief, hope, and desire fought within her”(Anderson 89). Kate, by day being a teacher by day, is a strong woman, filling knowledge into her students; i. Inspirational, a life changer, like reverend Curtis. However she acts stronger than she really is. George learned a lot from Kateher., Sshe taught him to take advantage of opportunities and to not be afraid to step out of his comfort zone. Kate was passionate about the adult world. When George was over getting the book she looked back to when he was a young boy, and told him the best advice anyone could have given, “You will have to know life” (Anderson 89).
